Summerland
This project involves the reconstruction of the former Summerland Hotel in Beirut and covers a total built area of 65,000 square meters. Estimated at US$ 82 million, the resort will consist of a five-star hotel, restaurants and retail stores, in addition to a health club and marina and other outdoor facilities. The project will create 221 direct employment opportunities and around 90 seasonal jobs.

Ericsson Global Service Delivery Center
The Ericsson Global Service Delivery Center in Sin el-Fil, with an estimated total investment of US$ 630,000, provides technology services to telecom providers. During the first stage of the project, 100 job opportunities in engineering and technology, as well as in management, were created. The Center hopes to attract other companies providing similar services, and thus contribute to boosting the competitiveness of Lebanon in the area of technology and telecom.

UTRIX
This project involves US$ 2 million worth of investment in the technology sector. UTRIX will produce, sell and export veterinary drugs. The factory will employ 21 staff and be located in Hosh el Omara, Zahle. The facility will have a potentially important economic impact on animal farming in Lebanon by providing locally-manufactured drugs of comparative quality to higher-priced imported products.

Kfoury Metals for Steel Production
This project is a steel production plant to be established at Salaata, Caza of Batroun, North Lebanon. The first phase, estimated to require an initial investment of US$ 15 million and expected to create 120 jobs, involves construction of the facilities and procurement of the equipment. Upon completion of the project, the total investment required is estimated at US$ 45 million. Once in full operation, the plant is expected to offer between 250 and 300 employment opportunities and provide the market with locally-produced goods at competitive prices compared to imported products.

NPPC Fresh Produce Factory
A center for fruit and vegetable packaging is being established in Taanayel, the Bekaa, at a cost of US$ 9 million. The project will provide 62 job opportunities. The NPPC Fresh Produce Factory is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and create competition with existing packaging centers through applying more cost-effective packaging technologies. Agricultural exports are also expected to increase since output will mainly target export markets.

Raouche Rotana Suites
This project comprises the construction of a hotel in the area of Ras Beirut. Total investment required is estimated at US$ 18.5 million, and the hotel will employ 175 staff. With an overall constructed area of 17,159 square meters, the 16-storey hotel will comprise 87 rooms and 89 suites, and include such facilities as meeting rooms, a restaurant and café, as well as a swimming pool and health club.

Mobile Broadband Wireless Access
Cedarcom is a Broadband Wireless Data Operator licensed to deploy and operate wireless data networking and last-mile solutions throughout Lebanon. Cedarcom deployed the first Fixed Broadband Wireless Access network in 2004 covering all Lebanon, and today, is the first to introduce Mobile Broadband Wireless Access network in Lebanon and the MENA region with MobiTM.
The MobiTM service consists of a small portable card (PC Card or USB Card) and a subscription that keeps the users connected to the internet or to their corporate network. MobiTM offers executives and students to remain connected at broadband speeds up to 1 Mbps wherever they are, at the office, on the road, in an exhibition, at a coffee shop, etc. Coverage extends through all of Greater Beirut, Jounieh, Tripoli, Faqra and Faraya. Additional cities will be covered in 2007 and beyond.

Cimenterie Nationale
Cimenterie Nationale is looking to upgrade capacity to meet a rapidly growing regional demand and projected market trends.
The US$90 million project will be undertaken in stages, with completion expected during the second half of 2008. One kiln will be upgraded to almost double capacity and a crusher-dryer plant added, the clinker cooler extended and the exhaust system replaced. Storage capacity will be increased by 40,000 tons and automatic bag loading machines installed. The design will also incorporate BAT to reduce the environmental impact and prepare for the use of alternative fuels.

3WF
The project involves the construction of a factory for the manufacturing of waved welded wire fabric, or 3WF. Production of 3WF panels will be targeted to meet demand in the local market, with export to the Middle East and Europe.
3WF is an international patented production concept and technology developed & invented by Lebanese Inventor GHATTAS KOUSSAIFI for waved welded wire mesh commonly used for fencing and screening of domestic, public and industrial plots. The new technology enables production of unlimited mesh pattern, from the traditional square to straight and curved patterns.

Beirut Waterfront Development
The Beirut Waterfront Development (BWD) is a joint venture between Solidere and Stow Waterfront. The project, designed by Steven Holl in collaboration with Lebanese architect Nabil Gholam, comprises residential, commercial and recreational facilities. Around 12,000m2 of fully-serviced, furnished units will be available for sale. There will also be an 800-member yacht club and a health and fitness center, in addition to 9,000 m2 of commercial areas.
The project, expected to be completed in 2008, will cost an estimated US$72.74 million and provide 210 job opportunities.

Secure Telecom and Banking Cards Project / IPT Cards
IPT Cards is a Lebanese technology company specializing in the development, manufacturing, and sales of cards embedded with integrated circuits, microprocessors, and memory chips. The company also develops and manufactures scratch cards, smart cards, and utility cards for telecom operators, financial institutions, and service companies.
All production stages, from conception through research and development to manufacturing and marketing, will take place in Lebanon. The target market is the Middle East and the Gulf area, Asia and Africa, but also Eastern and Central Europe.
The decision to set up in Lebanon was based on the availability of skilled labor and on the strategic geographical position of the country as a launch pad for the MENA region and Europe.

Royal Hotels & Resorts - RHR
Royal Hotels & Resorts is another 5-star hotel development destined for downtown Beirut. With ten buildings in total, three of which are existing buildings slated for renovation, the hotel will have 50 rooms and 50 suites. There will be 11 food and beverage outlets, as well as meeting and conference rooms, retail shops, a spa and health clinic.
The USD63.7million project will be developed on a 7,702 m² plot, and is expected to provide 220 job opportunities. The total constructed area will reach 67,776 m².

The Landmark
The Landmark in downtown Beirut, comprising residential, commercial and entertainment premises as well as a luxury hotel, is a USD149 million project designed by the well-known architect Jean Nouvel. The mixed-use center will include a 5-star hotel with 175 rooms and 15 suites, 39 service apartments and apartments for sale, as well as a health club, spa and business center. In addition, a shopping mall, cinema and entertainment center will be incorporated, all with access to ample underground parking facilities.
The focal point of Nouvel’s design will be a 150-meter tower flanked by two additional buildings, both connected to the tower by pedestrian bridges at various levels. The 44-meter North Building will have 9 floors, while the South Building will, at 55 meters, be 10 floors high.
The project, expected to be completed by December 2008 and provide around 345 job opportunities, is being developed by Landmark s.a.l. and was awarded investment and development incentives as per Package Deal Contract.

Daher Agro-Industrial Company & Daher International Food Company
Daher Agro-Industrial Company built and now operates a plant for the manufacturing of potato chips, as well as a range of snacks using corn as main ingredient. This is the first project of a planned industrial complex in West Bekaa. The second plant, to be built by Daher International Food Company, will manufacture breakfast cereals, cornflakes and other food products from wheat, corn, rice and oats. Production will mainly go to the local market, with some destined for export to the region as well as further afield.
The strategy of the Daher companies is to build a series of industrial plants for integrated food production in the Bekaa and also expand into cultivation of potatoes, corn and other grain for the manufacturing of potato chips, cereals and other agro food products.

VTR Beirut Post Production Facilities
VTR Beirut Post Production Facilities specializes in video telecine, editing and special effects. The project was set up by VTR Beirut with a total investment of US$5.4million and is expected to create 33 new jobs.

Jiyeh Resort - Blue Resort
The Jiyeh Resort - Blue Resort project is located in the Jiyeh area, 35km south of Beirut. The beach resort will cost US$21.18million and create job opportunities for 214 staff.
The project will be built in two phases. The first phase will be the construction of 196 chalets and 92 cabins, 3 swimming pools, 2 restaurants and a 17,577m2 yacht berth. The second phase will include the building of an eight-storey hotel with 138 rooms and 10 suites, as well as a restaurant, terrace, ballroom and health club.

Serai Gate
Serai Gate is a five-star luxury suite hotel in downtown Beirut with views on the Mediterranean Sea and the Sannine mountains. Developed by VEN.INVEST HOLDING, the seven-storey hotel comprises 83 suites as well as an integrated up-class department store and other related facilities. Most famous international Architect Kevin Dash and British Interior Designer Mary Fox Linton were assigned the job for such glamorous unique development.

Four Seasons - Beirut
IDAL signed a Package Deal Contract with the Kingdom Hotel Investment Group for the construction of a US$110million five-star hotel project in Beirut. This is the second tourism project in the city for Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal – the first being the Mövenpick Hotel & Resort Beirut.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, the leading operator of luxury hotels and resorts, will inaugurate the hotel in 2006. The 25-storey development, overlooking the new Beirut Western Marina, will have 230 rooms and suites, in addition to a health club and pool, several restaurants and amenities tailored to business and corporate guests.

Benta Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry Project
IDAL provided tangible incentives, such as full exemption from tax for a period of ten years, and facilitated work permits for all categories of staff to Benta Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry. Their new pharmaceutical plant, estimated to cost USD 8.75million, will be built according the highest international standards. Benta is the current market leader in Lebanon and specializes in the manufacturing, representation and distribution of pharmaceutical products as well as medical devices.
With a staff of sixty, the manufacturing plant will have the capacity to manufacture and process a wide range of pharmaceuticals, while the industrial division will produce advanced medical devices. All production will meet stringent international quality standards, and the plant will supply both the Lebanese and Middle Eastern markets.

Metropolitan Park - Habtoorland
The theme park and amusement center Habtoorland will be Lebanon’s first and the Middle East’s largest. The USD 60million theme park project has been awarded IDAL’s Package Deal Contract, including benefits such as special incentives, tax exemptions and fee waivers. When initially submitted to IDAL, the project had had an estimated cost set at USD 25million.
This is the fourth investment project in Lebanon for the Dubai-based Habtoor Group, following the Metropolitan City Center Beirut, Jamhour Village residential complex and the Metropolitan Palace Hotel in Sin-el-Fil, Beirut.
Located just 12 km from Beirut in the Haret El Sit area near Jamhour, Habtoorland will cover an area of 107,000m² and provide over 450 jobs. Once in full operation, an expected 3,000 visitors per day will come through the gates, the equivalent of 1.5 million per year.
The state-of-the-art complex, featuring the ancient Phoenician civilization as its theme, will include a miniature park, a souk, an amphitheater and bird parks, in addition to a roller-coaster and several other attractions.

Cedars Textile
IDAL granted full exemption from tax for a period of ten years and facilitated work permits for Cedars Textile, a manufacturing company for the production of yarn, polyester and nylon fibers and, at a later stage, acrylic fibers for the textile industry. This Syrian-owned company, located in Western Bekaa, will require an investment of USD 1million and ensure twenty-five job openings. The output will be targeted for the Lebanese market, with some export to Syria and the EU market.

Diamond Segments and Tools Manufacturing Unit
Through the OSS schemes, projects in the technology sector benefit from more wide-ranging exemptions than those in other sectors. IDAL approved a range of exemptions and incentives, such the waiving of tax for ten years and the granting of employment permits, for Diamond Segments and Tools Manufacturing Unit, a Lebanese-Saudi project developed by MG International Diamond Tools. This newly-established high-tech manufacturing company has acquired the trademark, know-how, and technology for the manufacturing of diamond segments and tools from a leading European company in the field.
The manufacturing unit, with a built-up area of 1,500m2 , will require a highly-qualified labor force of around twenty-five engineers and technicians, and the production process will be fully automated. Situated in Ain Saade, Mount Lebanon, the unit has the advantage of being located close to universities and technical institutes for research and technology exchange.
While an estimated ninety-five percent of the production will be exported to nearly fifty-five countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland and the USA, the manufacturing unit is still expected to have a positive impact on the Lebanese market by providing high-quality products at lower cost. The main importance of this USD1.77million project, however, lies in the transfer of technology and, once the unit is in operation, it is expected to have a major economic and social impact on the manufacturing sector as a whole in Lebanon.

LEFICO
IDAL granted the Lebanese Fiber Company (LEFICO) full exemption from income tax and tax on project dividends for a period of ten years for the building of a recycling plant in the Bekaa region. The plant will transform residual material into a fiber product, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), suitable for carpets and fiberfill applications. The recycling plant is projected to have a capacity to process an average of ten tons of PET bottles and five tons of virgin PET flakes per day. The US$2.6million project is expected to create around thirty job opportunities.

Hilton Beirut
In August 2003, IDAL concluded a Package Deal Contract with Hilton Beirut for the US$46-million refurbishment of the five-star hotel in the Beirut Central District. The project will be completed in 2004/2005 and will create around 200 full-time jobs.

Metropolitan City Center - Habtoor Grand Hotel Convention Center and Spa
Overlooking the city of Beirut, the Habtoor Grand Hotel Convention Center and Spa was recently inaugurated. The 151 guest rooms and suites command views of Beirut’s skyline and the USD150million hotel offers facilities to suit both business and leisure travelers.
A multi-use ballroom, equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, can accommodate conventions and conferences, as well as exhibitions and weddings. The Elixir Spa is appointed to provide the latest treatments and facilities, and the shopping mall extends over 5 floors with boutiques and retail outlets.
