We are proud to welcome John J. Kiernan Jr. to our Board of Directors. John brings a unique blend of creative, professional, and artistic experience to our organization, developed over decades of dedication to the decorative arts.
John studied Advertising Art & Design at Farmingdale State University on Long Island, New York, and began his career as an Art Director at several top advertising agencies. In 1987, he transitioned to public service, joining the Southampton Village Police Department and later the Fairfax County Police Department in Virginia.
In 2001, John committed himself full-time to the decorative arts, a passion he had long nurtured. His artistic excellence quickly gained recognition:
In 2004, he earned the "Best Ceiling" and an "Excellence Award" at the Faux Academy for a large mural project.
In 2005, he was honored to be selected as a member of SALON, the prestigious international gathering of decorative painters.
In 2007, he participated in the Faux Effects International event, known as the "Meeting of the Masters."
In 2015, his studio was named Best Studio by Home & Design Magazine.
John’s work has been featured in over 25 publications, including Home & Design Magazine, AIRBRUSH Magazine, Fine Art of America, The Washington Post, Faux Effects World, and Art International. His versatile portfolio spans fine art, murals, decorative painting, and even Harley Davidson art projects.
In 2016, John expanded his creative pursuits, working as a designer for a custom home builder, where he designed luxury kitchens, baths, and full homes — often integrating decorative painting and mural work into his remodeling projects.
Today, John devotes his energy to exhibiting his fine art at shows and galleries and painting commissioned murals on canvas. His remarkable journey — combining fine art, design, craftsmanship, and innovation — brings a rich perspective to our Board. We are excited to have John J. Kiernan Jr. join our leadership team and look forward to the creativity and experience he will share with our community.
