Service Description

We bring you to a much sought-after, rare destination: The Stenciled Home in Northumbria, UK. It’s a virtual visit, of course. We’ll sign on and join our hostess, Helen Morris, artist, and longtime member/teacher at IDAL, as she takes us on a tour of her magnificent stenciled home. We will also visit her shop, The Stencil Library, and see the studio where the world’s most extensive catalogue of stencils is custom cut and made. Over the years, thousands of visitors to Northumbria have toured this fabulous home… but we are special, we get to see the studio too! 2 Hour Event (see below for timing) Start with 1.5 Hours of Tour & Talk End with 30 Minutes of a Q&A Session ABOUT HELEN & CHIPS MORRIS The Stencil Library is a small business with a significant reputation; Helen Morris and her husband, Michael ‘Chips’ Chippendale, design and cut stencils from their home in the English countryside. The stencils are sold from their two websites and are shipped worldwide. They design for film and theatre and recreate stencils to restore churches and historical buildings. They make custom stencils for fashion designers and artists. Chips describes The Stencil Library style as ‘The museum meets the movie set.’ They have created a vast and diverse range of stencils, from a simple coach-line for furniture to full-scale Chinoiserie mural stencils adapted from a British royal palace. Their catalog of stencil designs is the largest in the world. This year, The Stencil Library will be 36 years old. Helen is a member of The Decorative Artist’s Salon and has taught for IDAL for many years. She attended her first convention when IDAL was called SALI and the location was Parsipanny New Jersey. Helen has CSA and CST Certification. She is the author of ‘The Stencilled Home’ published in the USA in 1998 and ‘Stencil It’ published in 7 languages in 2011. Chips is a highly respected artist in both the fine art and stencil art community. Chips and Helen live in a very stenciled home in rural Northumberland, close to Hadrian’s Wall and the border with Scotland. It is a large 18th-century farmhouse rented from the local lord. Almost every surface in the rooms is stenciled with their designs. The house has been featured in several books, magazines, and television programs.
