Creative Studio Day - Thursday

Some of the best finishes happen when you are free to experiment. Creative Studio Day is an open studio play day hosted by Mave Alft and Lisa Ketterling. There is no set project and no fixed recipe. You choose the plasters, colors, tools, and designs you want to explore, and Mave and Lisa are there the whole day with guidance, recipes, and inspiration when you want it. HOW IT WORKS - You set the agenda: bring the ideas, techniques, or finishes you have been wanting to try - Work at your own pace throughout the day - Ask for a recipe, a demonstration, or a second opinion whenever you need one - Trade ideas with a room full of working finishers doing the same WHO SHOULD ATTEND If you learn best by doing, and you have a list of ideas you never have time to test on client work, this is your day to work through it. ABOUT YOUR HOSTS Mave Alft has worked in decorative painting since 1972, joining the family firm Alft Decorators before specializing in decorative paint and plaster. She has taught at Camp Faux, the Faux Retreat, and IDAL conferences, and served as a Master Class instructor for two Italian plaster companies. She is Creative Director at The PlasterCenter in Minneapolis. She is joined by Lisa Ketterling, owner of The Creative Touch, who co-hosts the studio day. CLASS DETAILS - Thursday, October 8, 2026 (8 hours) - Location: Finishing Trades Institute of the Upper Midwest, Little Canada, Minnesota - Price: $150 - Class size is limited to 30 participants At $150 for a full day of studio time with two experienced guides, this is the most affordable way to spend a full class day at the Expo.
