Service Description
At the the Zhou B Art Center in downtown Kansas City, step into the meditative world of Zentangle and learn how to transform simple, elegant patterns into bold, mural-scale designs that elevate your professional portfolio. We’ll begin with a calming drawing practice where you’ll learn eight unique Zentangle patterns and complete 3–4 finished tiles. These exercises not only introduce you to the flow of Zentangle, but also provide you with beautiful sample boards to share with clients and design groups. From there, we’ll explore how to scale your designs into larger formats—moving from small paper tiles to canvases, furniture, and wall applications. You’ll gain hands-on experience prepping and painting surfaces, learning professional techniques you can immediately apply in your own projects. On Day Two, the class will come together to create a collaborative wall mural. Each student will complete their own section, resulting in a one-of-a-kind mural piece to take home. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have tangible artwork, practical mural-making experience, and fresh inspiration to expand your creative practice. Your registration includes a complete kit: • 5 Zentangle paper tiles • Fine tip pen, pencil, sharpener • 2 tortillions, blue charcoal pencil • Felt tip refill markers • Wallpaper application kit • Art cambric • Printed practice sheet Note: If you have mural brushes or artist brushes, please bring them. Dora will also have brushes available to share. This workshop is perfect for decorative artists looking to grow their portfolio, impress clients with innovative sample boards, and bring new creative techniques into their professional toolkit. Whether you’re working on residential murals, commercial spaces, or personal projects, Zentangle-inspired patterns open the door to endless design possibilities.
